Dear Friends,
I am saddened to announce that longtime AAPIO member Dr. Ashraf Sheikhtayab Noorani, MD passed away on July 1, 2021 at Stanford University Medical Center.
Dr. Noorani was born on August 20, 1942 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. After studying in England and Germany, he graduated in 1968 from Makerere University Medical School in Kampala, Uganda. After completing his internship, residency, and fellowship in Nephrology in New York state, he settled in San Jose, California where he practiced Nephrology and Internal Medicine.
Dr. Noorani was a physician beloved by his patients. He practiced medicine in his own private practice in San Jose, California for 37 years, retiring in 2016. He was a compassionate and dedicated physician, known for spending time with his patients, making sure patients and their families understood the medical scenario they were facing. His dedication to his patients was foremost. He provided free services to many who were unable to pay.
Dr. Noorani is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Zebunissa (Jenny) Noorani, his daughter Neelam Noorani, son Rizwan Noorani, and two grandchildren Aydin Noorani and Niah Noorani Rangwala. Dr. Noorani is also survived by his brother.
I have known Dr Noorani as member of our medical staff for Regional Medical Center San Jose since 2006 where he was known for his superb medical knowledge, professionalism and always keen to help patients and colleagues. Dr Noorani will be truly missed by AAPIO family. Please keep Dr Noorani and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
